Seminar on AI in Healthcare: Strengthening International Collaboration between USM and ATU

Dec 10 : USM in partnership with Al-Furat Al-Awsat Technical University (ATU),Iraq successfully hosted the Seminar on AI in Healthcare from 10–11 December 2025 at Auditorium INFORMM, USM main campus. This marks the first collaborative activity following the MoU signed between both universities last year—an encouraging start as we look forward to more impactful initiatives in the future.
The opening ceremony was graced by Prof. Dato' Gs. Dr. Narimah Binti Samat, Deputy Vice Chancellor of Academic & International, USM and Prof. Dr. Ahmed Ghanim Wadday, Deputy Vice Chancellor (Assistant President for Scientific Affairs), ATU. We were also honoured by the presence of Assistant Professor Dr. Abduljaleel Mohammed Majeed, Cultural Counselor and Iraqi Cultural Attaché to Malaysia, who also delivered a special address.
This seminar was jointly coordinated by the Division of Academic & International, Advance Medical & Dental Institute, and School of Computer Sciences reflecting strong multidisciplinary support for global academic collaboration.
The seminar gathered 80 participants, comprising academic staff, students, researchers, and administrative staff, reflecting strong and diverse engagement across the university community.
Designed to deepen understanding of the latest advancements in AI, the seminar explored how emerging technologies are reshaping the healthcare landscape, from clinical decision support and medical imaging to predictive analytics, telehealth, and implementation science.
The programme also opened the floor for meaningful discussions on ethical considerations, data security and privacy, governance, regulatory imperatives, and the real-world effectiveness of AI interventions, ensuring that innovation continues with accountability and public trust.
