EU AMBASSADOR AND EU AMBASSADORS STATE MEMBER TO MALAYSIA VISIT USM TO EXPLORE EDUCATIONAL COLLABORATIONS
February 14, Georgetown : USM had the honor of hosting a delegation of 19 European Union (EU) Ambassadors state members to Malaysia, led by the Ambassador of EU, His Excellency Rafael Daerr for a meaningful engagement on potential collaborations in the field of education. The event took place at the University Conference Hall, bringing together key representatives from both USM and the EU.
The delegation of EU Ambassadors member states to Malaysia included representatives from Croatia, Germany, Romania, Austria, Spain, Netherlands, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Slovenia, Greece, Poland, Ireland, Czech Republic, Denmark, Sweden, Finland, Bulgaria and Belgium
The visit provided a platform for discussions on partnership opportunities between USM and European Union universities, as well as an exchange of ideas on key institutional priorities and areas of mutual interest.
In welcoming remarks, Professor Dr. Azlan Amran, Exercising the Function of Vice-Chancellor emphasized the importance of international partnerships in higher education, stating, “At USM, we firmly believe in the power of international partnerships in advancing education, research, and innovation. Our collaborations with esteemed institutions across the EU have been instrumental in fostering academic excellence, cross-cultural exchanges, and groundbreaking research. These partnerships have enabled our students and faculty to participate in invaluable programs, such as student exchange initiatives and Erasmus+ activities, which enrich learning experiences and broaden perspectives.”
As part of the program, two key presentations were delivered. Professor Dr. Habibah A Wahab, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research & Innovation) , highlighted USM’s research collaborations with EU partners, while Professor Dato’ Gs. Dr. Narimah Samat, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic & International), provided insights into academic partnerships and Erasmus+ initiatives with EU institutions.
The engagement was further enriched by the presence of faculty deans, some of whom held direct discussions with the EU Ambassadors to explore specific collaboration prospects.
This visit marks an important step in strengthening ties between USM and the EU, fostering greater academic and research cooperation in the years to come.
