Narimah Samat, is a Professor in Geographic Information Sciences, School of Humanities, Universiti Sains Malaysia.
- BSc (GIS/Cartography) from Southwest Texas State University, United States of America in 1990.
- MA (GIS/Remote Sensing in urban land use modelling) from Universiti Sains Malaysia in 1995.
- PhD (GIS and urban land use modelling) from University of Leeds, United Kingdom in 2002.
Narimah started her career as a lecturer at Universiti Sains Malaysia in Oct 1995. But, She went to pursue PhD, funded by Association of Commonwealth University, in University of Leeds from 1999 to 2002. Since then, she has continuously working on various GIS projects. Her main research interest is in the application of GIS and urban land use modelling. She has completed more than 45 research projects related to GIS and it applications in various fields particularly in Urban Land Use Modelling, GIS and Social Issues Analysis. Her current research on land use/cover changes and its impact on water resources and urban development and its impact on peri-urban agricultural activities. From those projects, she has published more than 50 articles in international journals and 4 research books.
Narimah was selected as a ASEAN Science Fellow by Global Youth Academy in 2016. She was a visiting research fellow at Universiti Brunei Darussalam from January – June 2014 and Herriot-Watt University, Edinburgh in Dec 2017. She is now a professional member of the Institution of Geospatial and Remote Sensing Malaysia and Malaysia Geographical Association of Malaysia. At present, she is a Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic and International), Universiti Sains Malaysia.
